A summer-long celebration of the McKinney Farmers Market has come to an end. The hot Texas weather is starting to give way to cooler temps, and soon daylight savings time will take a back seat to 5pm sunsets.
But those friendly faces and that calming atmosphere won’t be gone long. The Chestnut Square market kicks off the winter gathering every third Saturday of the month beginning in November. Adriatica, the weekly Thursday market, shuts down until the Summer market heats back up in March 2014.
It’s been a good year! American Farmland Trust’s I Love My Farmers Market Celebration competition recognized the McKinney Farmers Market as the top market in Texas and No. 7 in the country. Boom!
Let’s put that into perspective. There are approximately 8000 farmers markets nationwide. So if you’re No. 7, you’re doing something right. McKinney’s historically charming Chestnut Square provides a great backdrop: a collection of historic homes, a replica one-room school, a chapel, store, blacksmith shop, smoke house and garden area on 2.5 acres, that give the look and feel of how life was in McKinney in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
So come on down and enjoy an award winning farmers market. Texas farmers have delivered another year of your favorite fresh, delicious and healthy produce with more family fresh goodness on the way.
