In September of this year the McKinney Sprouts Farmers Market opened, making the chore of grocery shopping a little more fun. Many McKinney residents were already driving to nearby towns to get their Sprouts fix, so its opening was greeted with excitement from already loyal customers, and high expectations from new customers.
And the McKinney Sprouts did not disappoint.
“A supermarket that is inspired by farmers markets,” tracing its roots back to a single fruit stand in 1943 San Diego, Sprouts tries to maintain a balance of healthy and affordable grocery shopping. Acknowledging that local and organic may be preferable options for shoppers, Sprouts understands the reality that not all regions are productive enough year round to provide locally sourced food for all consumers. But when providing local produce makes sense to their mission of “healthy living for less,” you will find it in their large produce section.
While Sprouts is definitely true to its farmers market inspiration, being a produce heavy store, you will find all the traditional grocery departments there as well, including a full service meat department and a deli. Of these, Sprouts is particularly well known for its bulk food section that carries everything from 7 Bean and Barley Soup mix, to a wide variety of nut butters, to organic steel cut oats.
Sprouts also boasts an extensive supplements department, which carries over 9000 products. The department is staffed by employees trained in the appropriate use of supplements. A computer is available for shoppers to check indexed information about supplements, such as potential drug interactions.
The McKinney Sprouts has done a great job bridging the affordable to natural gap. If you get the chance, visit their store at Custer and Virginia and let us know what you think.Sprouts Farmers Market 9241 Virginia Parkway
