Just a little south of McKinney’s historic downtown square is One Lazy Lizard. A fun little restaurant and bar at 119 S. Tennessee and perhaps one of downtown McKinney’s best kept secrets.
You know — something you didn’t expect. But were pleasantly surprised by.
I stopped in on a hot Saturday afternoon and really enjoyed my experience. I wasn’t that hungry — just needed something to tide me over and cool off.
I’ll be gosh-darned if they didn’t have Franconia on tap, a clean and inviting (and bright green) bar to sit at, and if that wasn’t enough – pre-season NFL Football on a big screen.
I’ve had worse Saturday afternoons. And the service from Brian was excellent.
The inside is modern and …metallic. Open and industrial.
The concrete floor and exposed duct work in the ceiling, and the diamond metal covering the outer elevator to the 2nd floor creates a grungy, sharp-edged, urban mood.
There’s a party space upstairs that has a local feel. I mean local – like you’ll feel right at home. It’s a good place to have a private party and a great time.
Since I wasn’t that hungry, I had the chips and salsa, along with a cold Franconia Wheat. But word on the street is lots of things are good. One look at the menu and you’ll see plenty of options. Right down to the lizard tails (and legs).
My only recommendation would be more seating. At first glance the dining area looks a little under-furnished, thus less inviting.
But it’s no deterrent. This downtown McKinney restaurant and bar is good casual dining. And a great place to hang out.
I know. I did.
