But, right on the corner of Louisiana and Kentucky Streets, an envious location on the downtown square, you’ll find Spoons Cafe & Bar, an ideal place for casual dining, friendly gatherings, and live music in a vintage setting.
Here’s the deal: breakfast all day everyday, salads, sandwiches, soups, burgers, gourmet hot dogs, chicken this-and-that, casserole, spaghetti, enchiladas, tacos, fajitas, a kids menu, a full-service bar and more. And Spoons caters, too.
I can personally vouch for the Big Tex Panini — a dang good samich.
And if you’re into dessert, Spoons is your destination. Trust me on this. The restaurant offers a long list of pies, cakes, muffins, cookies, scones, and — as you might expect, I can bear testimony to the awesomeness of their coconut cream pie.
Coffee? You’re in luck. Spoons Garage, an extension of Spoons Cafe, sits two doors down in the same building. The Garage offers an impressive lineup of brewed and iced coffee. Starbucks beware.
Spoons Garage is also where they bake all that dessert goodness. The Garage is vintage, like the cafe, with a touch of grunge. My kind of place.
Free-wifi? You bet. And Spoons is part of downtown McKinney’s eclectic live music scene with some of the area’s best musicians playing weekly. There’s also open mic night, where you, if you dare, are the entertainment.
This family-owned diner is a community favorite and resides inside a converted 1920’s Texas Power and Light Company building and is the perfect scene for food, fun and friends. Which, of course, is why we like it.
We also like the service. Kimberly, a four-year Spoons veteran, managed something we’ve not experienced that often eating out: food and drinks ordered and to the table in 7 minutes. How’s that for service? Kudos, Kimberly.
Needless to say, Get McKinney is a big fan of Spoons Cafe. I don’t know, maybe we get great service because we ask funny questions, have a big camera and want to know everyone’s name. Or maybe it’s because owner Karen Klassen has built something worth bragging about.
