The Pantry Restaurant in Historic Downtown McKinney has been serving up recipe goodness passed down from generations since 1982.
Sitting just off McKinney’s historic main square on Louisiana Street, the first thing you notice when you pass by the chalkboard menu outside is the atmosphere.
The original brick walls, wooden floors and second floor balcony that was once the old Hope Hardware building establishes an antique rustic feel that fits right in with the downtown McKinney vibe.
The dining area is pretty large with a second floor that easily accommodates groups. You order and pay at the back counter: VISA, Master Card, check or cash, then find one of many cozy places to sit. They’ll call your name when the food is ready. Simple.
The Pantry offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and there’s something for everyone: salads, soups, specialty sandwiches and burgers, quiches, all kinds of sides, and yes, those famous sweets. They also cater and do special events.
My advice: go with the daily special, pick the tastiest looking dessert on display, and top it off with some yummy Blue Bell ice cream.
The food is fresh, and they’re not afraid to do something big like recreate one of their signature pies in a gigantic way.
Finally, The Pantry is part of McKinney’s historic building tour. The building was occupied for 80 years by the aforementioned Hope Hardware store. You can still see nail-heads in the wood floor that were used to measure lengths of rope and chain. Pretty cool.
The Pantry is your basic down-home casual dining experience in an historic setting. It’s also affordable and run by wonderful people doing a lot for the community.
