I’m going to call it and say that spring has arrived in McKinney, TX. The opening weekend kicked off with a beautiful lightning show last night and is going to finish up with a sunny Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 70’s. It’s a perfect weekend to get out in the garden, so I’ve gathered a few of my favorite garden shops to help you pick up the supplies you need to do it right.
If you don’t have a lot of space for your garden, or maybe you’ve run out of space and need more, then why not grab a plot at the McKinney Community Garden? This is a great place to garden with others who enjoy the sport and learn from their collective knowledge. It’s old school crowd-sourcing. Membership is $25 per year and each plot is $35 and includes seed, water and soil amendments.
It just so happens that Saturday, March 29 is a community work day, so this is a great chance for you to go check out the community garden.McKinney Community Garden Association Their flagship project, the E.S. The place to go to add a little funk to your garden. Housed in a former greyhound bus station, this shop is the place to go to find “funky house stuff, groovy garden goods, and far-out flora”. We’ll be talking a little more about Diggin’ It next week on Get McKinney, but don’t forget to stop by there to put the finishing touches on your outdoor project this weekend.Diggin’ It 507 N Tennessee Street McKinney, TX, 75069 469-952-3446469-952-3446
Just because you aren’t needing any floral arrangements right now, don’t let that stop you from popping in. They carry plenty of seeds and some great unique pieces to give your garden that special something. There are a lot of years of garden experience from the Crump family in this shop, so you might end up with a few suggestions, too. And there’s nothing wrong with picking up some fresh cut flowers, either, you know, until yours have a chance to grow. The Stalk Market 305 W. Louisiana St.
