This is the weekend for Arts in Bloom, McKinney’s annual sidewalk art festival. This is going to be an exciting year with some changes that will make the event even better than in the past.
The Main Attraction
There will be over 150 artists nestled in among McKinney’s fantastic downtown shops and eateries on Saturday from 11 am to 8 pm. Whether you prefer sculpture, paint, photography or jewelery, you will find something you love from one of the local or regional artists attending.
Throughout the day there will be live music from the Kentucky Stage and the Courthouse lawn. You can check out the award-winning art in the juried art show in the MPAC Gallery. Some McKinney shops and restaurants will have special sales and demos for shoppers.
New… and Fabulous This Year: The Texas Wine Garden
If your preferred artform is a handcrafted Texas wine, then you are in luck this weekend. A Wine Festival has been added to the exciting events at Arts in Bloom. A $20 ticket will get you a tasting glass and tickets for tasting wines from some of the 13 Texas winemakers attending. You can chat with the winemakers and maybe buy a bottle – or a case – of your favorite.
Want to Get an Early Start?
If you just can’t wait till 11 am, then head on over to Chestnut Square for the Farmer’s Market. The weekly “Art in the Market” will feature Jim Phipps and his demonstration of the impasto oil technique he uses to create his beautiful landscapes.
And also, food.
Want to Stay Late?
Well, you are in luck because it is Second Saturday, and many of the shops will stay open until 10 pm. So if 8 o’clock rolls around and you just aren’t ready to quit, stroll through some of your favorite shops and then settle in for and adult beverage and some great music at Rick’s Lounge, The Cadillac Pizza Pub, Churchill’s or The Listening Room.
