Take your pooch out to the Dog Park at Bonnie Wenk and let him hang with his buds and get some fresh air while you talk breeds and biscuits with other dog owners. Even if you don’t have a dog, these pooches offer some great entertainment. And if Fido (or his owner) still needs more exercise, Bonnie Wenk is central to the McKinney Hike and Bike trail system, so you can enjoy a beautiful weekend hike. Net Cost: $02996 W. Historic Downtown McKinney is just a nice place to be, with lots of great shops, art galleries and restaurants. Stroll the square, check out the merchandise, and do a little people-watching. You might even decide to treat yourself to some amazing gelato at Paciugo. Total cost: $5 if you opt for the gelato
Pack up a picnic lunch, or join the fun at the Trout Derby and have a hot dog with the other fishermen at Towne Lake. You can enjoy sand volleyball, horseshoes, or rent a paddleboat on Towne Lake. If you’ve still got energy, try a round of disc golf. Net cost: $0 to $3 for the Trout Derby
Get the bikes out and head over to Erwin Park for some off-road activity, or enjoy staying on the road with one of McKinney’s many on-road and paved trails. Net cost: $0
The Classics on the Square Car Show takes place on the McKinney Square from 7:30-10:30 am on the last Saturday of each month. Join these car enthusiasts as they show off their restorations. Net cost: $0
